QUENTIN CRISP: THE NAKED CIVIL SERVANT

This series of watercolor paintings is an exploration of the life of the English writer and gay icon Quentin Crisp, based on his autobiography “The Naked Civil Servant.” These pieces illustrate Crisp’s experiences as a self declared effeminate homosexual male. They chronicle his exploration of women’s clothing and makeup, his work as an artist and illustrator, his realizations surrounding love and loneliness, his attempts to enlist and take part in the war effort, and his hardships facing homophobia in the British streets and courts.
