Process Over Perfection: A Fast and Loose Figure Drawing Intensive
This class uses short form life drawing to teach an expressive and painterly approach to works on paper. For students with formal training, the workshop offers a chance to breathe new life into their work, enhancing traditional skills by practicing embodied/dynamic techniques, and decisiveness through time-based restrictions. For newer artists, it will provide space to get comfortable drawing from a live model through repeated practice and guided exploration. Students should expect to come away from the class with an enhanced life drawing/painting skill set, increased intuition, and confidence, rather than a masterpiece.
The instructor provides a foundational introduction to fast figure drawing that teaches her method (“eggs and legs” + anchor points), leaning away from precision, toward spontaneity and presence. Students also learn to use their arm and torso as extensions of the brush, and draw on carving/sculpture in 2D media.

Intro to Anatomy— Working from the Inside Out
This course helps students to approach figure drawing from a structural lens, demystifying the scaffolding underlying the human figure by focusing on the skeletal and muscular anatomy relevant to drawing. In addition to helping with proportion and realism, understanding the form increases your confidence knowing where to start as you stare down your blank sheet of paper, grounding your process in something solid and giving you a base to build off of. The class primarily uses pencil and water based paints (eg. watercolor, gouache, ink, or poster paint) to practice the process of layering. This class is open to all skill levels. Beginners will build a strong foundation, while more experienced artists can revisit the basics and focus on areas of the figure they find challenging to render.
